Amaporã State Park

Location

The Amaporã State Park (In Portuguese: Parque Estadual de Amaporã) is in the municipality of Amaporã, in the northwest region of state of Paraná, Brazil. It is located in the Terceiro Plateau, between the Tibagi, Paranapanema and Ivaí Rivers, a region called Pelo Planalto de Apucarana.

The park is about 1 km from the city of Amaporã, 33 km from Paranavaí, and 507 km from Curitiba, with access via PR 218 highway.

When to visit

The park is open from Tuesday to Friday, from 8AM to 5PM.

How to get there

Depart from Paranavaí via PR 218, passing through Amaporã, continue on the highway towards Planaltina do Paraná. After passing through the city of Amaporã for 1 km, there is an entrance gate on the right indicating the Park.

Since its creation, the Amaporã State Park has been an area of great importance in the regional context, serving as a destination for visitation, educational purposes, research, leisure, and the development of environmental education activities.

Before you visit, please wear appropriate footwear and clothing for hiking and bathing, bring insect repellent, and a camera.

Upon arrival at the Park, visitors should go to the Visitor Center, where they will fill out a registration form for their safety during the visit, and where they will receive general information about the Park (audiovisual resources). The Visitor Center offers parking facilities, educational and informational materials about the Park, restrooms, and drinking water.

Recreation Area I

A space with 10 sets of tables, benches, trash bins, restrooms, and barbecue grills, providing recreation and leisure for groups of up to 6 people.

Recreation Area II

A space with 6 kiosks, also for small groups, equipped with tables, benches, trash bins, a place for gas grills or similar equipment, for picnics and relaxation.

Swimming Area

A designated area for swimming for visitors of all ages, with competitive activities prohibited.

Ipê Trail

An 800-meter trail, lasting 50 minutes, passing through a diverse range of fauna and flora of great beauty. Used for nature interpretation, environmental education, and preserving the history of various generations since its colonization.

Alternative Trail

A 1,200-meter trail, lasting 90 minutes. Designed for university visitors and researchers to compare different stages of vegetation.

Recreational Activities

The park provides recreational areas for all ages, such as a soccer field, resting areas, swimming areas, etc.

Infrastructure

The Park features: Visitor Center, warehouse, parking lot, Recreation Area I with 10 sets of tables, barbecue grills, and trash bins, manager’s house, park ranger houses, Recreation Area II with 6 kiosks, restrooms, water fountain, and a field for school group recreation.

Prohibited Activities

  • Smoking;
  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages;
  • Camping;
  • Bathing in unauthorized areas;
  • Use of equipment that causes noise disturbance in the area;
  • Any type of street vending in the Park area;
  • Entry of domestic animals;
  • Littering or leaving any kind of waste or debris that may tarnish the scenic integrity of the area;
  • Driving or riding motorcycles outside designated parking areas;
  • Straying from marked and signposted trails;
  • Engaging in activities that may cause fires in the area;
  • Carrying knives, machetes, sickles, as well as any other cutting tools, firearms, chainsaws, or equipment causing noise disturbance in the area;
  • Collecting, damaging, carving, or pruning trees within the Park’s various areas;
  • Hunting, fishing, collecting, or gathering natural specimens of flora and fauna, except for authorized scientific purposes;
  • Unauthorized entry of people, vehicles, and equipment into the Park;
  • Feeding or frightening animals;
  • Any damage caused by visitors will be subject to sanctions under current environmental legislation.

Facts about Amaporã State Park

History

In 1956, a forest unit was created that was incorporated into the state for the protection of forests and vegetation between the municipalities of Cascavel and Paranavaí. Later, the Jurema Forest Reserve was renamed the Amaporã Forest Reserve, which was transformed into a State Park in 2011, covering an area of 204.56 hectares, with the objective of fully protecting the local biodiversity.

The Amaporã Park also has a Rehabilitation Center for Birds and Small Animals that have suffered abuse or were being illegally trafficked. In this space, the animals receive the necessary care to be reintegrated into their natural habitat.

Biodiversity

The Amaporã State Park is located in the region of the Semideciduous Seasonal Forest under the influence of the Ivaí River valley. The majority of the Park is occupied by a remnant of this primary forest, while the remaining area contains vegetation types such as secondary growth forests and old pastures, currently in an advanced stage of natural regeneration.

The most important plant species include: Peroba (Aspidosperma polyneuron), Marfim (Balfourodendron riedelianum), Gurucaia (Paraptadenia rígida), Ipê roxo (Tabeluia avellanedae), Cedro (Cedrela fissilis), and Ingá (Ingá sp.).

Among the fauna, we can highlight the presence of species such as: Coati (Nasua nasua), Capybara (Hidrochaerys hidrochaerys), Herons, Bush duck, Capuchin monkey (Cebus apella), Otter (Lutra platensis), Nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus), Paca (Cuniculus paca), and Agouti.
